The location of Burnside House makes it an ideal centre for many of the places of interest in The Highlands and Grampian regions. Whether you are looking for a peaceful retreat or a base for activity, Burnside House is ideally placed to suit your needs. You can take a short walk from the house to secluded beaches with caves to explore and birds and marine life to see, or maybe even catch a glimpse of the family of bottlenose dolphins living in the Moray Firth!.
Wildlife and nature The River Spey, known for it's Salmon and Trout fishing is close by, if fishing is not for you then walk the Speyside way and see the nature of the area, maybe take a picnic and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Scottish countryside, breathe the clean fresh Scottish air and revitalize your mind and body, see the wild deer and birds of prey such as the Osprey and Buzzard, you may even be lucky enough to see the Golden Eagle. There's a Falconry centre nearby where you can just watch magnificent birds of prey being 'flown' in display or you can actually try it out for yourself! Go moster hunting at Loch Ness, take a trip to the visitor centre and see if you can be the one to spot the mysterious and ellusive 'Nessie'. If it's gardens that take your fancy then the area boasts many beautiful gardens open to visitors including the unusual Biblical Gardens in Elgin.
History If it's castles you want to see, then you are right in the heart of castle country, there are many romantic ruins to explore or living breathing castles to visit, including Brodie castle and Cawdor castle in the middle of 'Macbeth' country, as a matter of interest Macbeth is still a local family name! Culloden battlefield invites you to walk across the battle lines and relive the last battle fought on Scottish soil, a visitor centre brings alive the sights and sounds of battle with exhibits and a filmshow. There are ruins of abbeys around the area but at Pluscarden you can visit a restored and working Abbey and see and even talk to the monks at work.
Famous Scottish Products Whatever takes your fancy there's something for you near at hand. The river Spey is also famous for it's connection with whisky, follow the whisky trail and visit some of the many distilleries which abound in the area, from small privately owned distilleries to famous names such as Glenfiddich, Chivas, Bells, J&B and Macallan. You can take a tour of the production process at Baxters of Speyside and see just what goes into making those world famous soups, jams, pickles and sauces. You can see the visitor centre at the world famous Johnstons Cashmere Mill in Elgin and treat yourself to a cashmere sweater made on the premises.
Recreation Go fishing along the River Spey, take a forest trail, maybe go pony trekking or visit an adventure park, take a boat trip along the Caledonian canal, the possibilities are endless, just bring your imagination! Then there's the Golf! If it's golf your'e after then there are over 10 golf courses within a short distance of Burnside House. And when you return from your day's activities, relax in the evening in the games room with it's full sized snooker table and many other games including chess and cards.
